On Monday, Acton Elementary’s 6th grade explored a stream flowing through the Province Lake Golf Course. We spent the morning collecting all the macroinvertebrates we could find, including dragonflies, crayfish, mayflies, crane flies and more!

We also conducted some water quality tests including turbidity, pH, temperature, phosphates, and dissolved oxygen. After lunch, we identified all the water bugs we found, and classified our water quality based on the quantity and types of species we found. We determined that the stream was moderate to high water quality!

It was a great day with enthusiastic students! Check out all of the photos from the trip.
